2025 Subaru
Forester Hybrid

The Forester has been a mainstay of Subaru’s lineup since it first hit showrooms 30-plus years ago. Its versatility and foul-weather capability have helped the automaker remain among the top car brands for customer loyalty. Yet, for all its strengths, the Forester was never available in the U.S. as a hybrid. That has changed with the launch of the 2025 Subaru Forester Hybrid as part of the roll-out of the all-new sixth-generation Forester.
The new hybrid powertrain marks a significant step for Subaru, pairing their next-generation series-parallel hybrid system with the proven 2.5-liter Boxer engine. It provides up to 40% better fuel economy than the standard Forester while retaining the all-wheel-drive capability that defines the brand. Unlike some competitors that use separate electric motors for the rear wheels, the Forester Hybrid routes its entire hybrid powertrain through a mechanical all-wheel-drive system, ensuring consistent power delivery to all four wheels. Combined with 8.7 inches of ground clearance, this approach preserves the Forester's off-road credentials while improving efficiency.
Trims and Drivetrain
Subaru presents four versions of the 2025 Forester Hybrid: Premium, Sport, Limited, and Touring. All trims have a 2.5-liter four-cylinder Boxer engine optimized with a hybrid electric system. This powerplant produces 194 net horsepower – that’s a 12–14 horsepower boost over the non-hybrid Forester – which is distributed to all four corners via Subaru’s Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive. A continuously variable transmission (CVT) controls the powertrain. The EPA-estimated fuel economy is 35 mpg in the city and 34 mpg on the highway, and the maximum range on a full tank is 581 miles. There is 27.5 cubic feet of cargo space, which expands to 69.1 cubic feet behind the first row. The towing capacity is 1,500 pounds.
Standard Features
The Forester Hybrid Premium trim is well equipped with a power panoramic moonroof, heated front seats, a hands-free liftgate with automatic close, a ten-way power driver’s seat with power lumbar support, steering-responsive LED headlights with automatic on/off, premium textured fabric upholstery, dual-zone automatic climate control, and LED fog lights. It also has proximity keyless entry, push-button start, heated power side mirrors, a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, roof rails, rear privacy glass, a windshield wiper de-icer, a retractable cargo area cover, a tilt-and-telescopic steering column, four USB ports (two per row), wireless device charging, and 18-inch alloy wheels.
The Sport adds StarTex leatherette upholstery, unique interior and exterior treatments, and 19-inch alloy wheels. The Limited is upgraded with exclusive interior and exterior accents, side mirrors with integrated LED turn signals, and rain-sensing windshield wipers. Upscale amenities are at the heart of the Touring. It has perforated leather upholstery with suede-covered front bolsters, heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear outboard seats, a driver’s memory system, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, a digital rearview mirror, and a passenger-side exterior mirror with reverse auto tilt-down.
Advanced Driver Aids and Safety Technology
The Forester Hybrid comes standard with Subaru’s EyeSight suite of advanced safety technology. The system has forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, automatic emergency steering, lane departure and sway warning, lane departure prevention, blind-spot detection with lane change assist, rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control with lane centering, lead vehicle start alert, automatic high beams, and rear seat reminder. The Sport and higher have reverse automatic braking. The Touring also has a driver monitoring system and a surround-view monitor. The supplemental safety equipment found on all includes multiple airbags, anti-lock brakes, stability control, traction control, hill descent control, and a rearview mirror.
Infotainment and Connectivity
The Forester Hybrid’s infotainment system is anchored by an 11.6-inch touchscreen, which is supported by integrated navigation, wireless Android Auto/Apple CarPlay, SiriusXM satellite radio, and Bluetooth. The Premium trim has a six-speaker sound system while the higher trims are upgraded to an 11-speaker Harman Kardon arrangement. Also standard is Wi-Fi hotspot capability and access to Subaru Connected Services.
