Crosstrek & Crosstrek Hybrid

As Subaru's best-selling model, the Crosstrek plays a significant role in the automaker's U.S. lineup. To keep this success on track, Subaru made several changes for the 2026 model year, starting with the return of the Crosstrek Hybrid, which last appeared in 2023 as a plug-in hybrid. It's now a conventional gas-electric hybrid (without the need to be plugged in) that runs on Subaru's next-generation series-parallel hybrid system. That powertrain is available on two Crosstrek trims and supplies more power and better fuel economy than the gas-only engine. Those trims get a few standard upgrades not found on the gas-only trims, plus they're eligible for additional paint colors called Citron Yellow Pearl and Sand Dune Pearl.

As for the strictly gas powerplant, the base trim now gets the same upgraded engine as the other non-hybrid trims, for an increase of 28 horsepower (180 hp total) over the previous model year. Subaru has also expanded the entry-level Crosstrek with the likes of push-button ignition, paddle shifters controlling an 8-speed manual mode, and Subaru's Dual-Function X-MODE with Snow/Dirt and Deep Snow/Mud drive settings. Once again, the lineup features the extra-capable Wilderness, which boasts more ground clearance, a higher towing capacity, additional underbody protection, and steering and suspension upgrades. The Sport Hybrid, Limited, Limited Hybrid, and Wilderness get the expanded 2026 version of the EyeSight driver-assist suite with lane change assist and emergency lane keep assist; the Limited and Limited Hybrid also get DriverFocus distraction mitigation. Subaru has also added a heated steering wheel to the standard equipment for both the Wilderness and the Limited.
