The Sport and RS trims make up the lineup for the 2026 Impreza, which is now strictly made as a hatchback. In the Subaru tradition, all-wheel drive (AWD) is standard. The trims have different engines, with the Sport getting a 152-horsepower 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine and the RS upgrading to a 180-hp 2.5-liter four-cylinder. They both use a continuously variable transmission (CVT) to manage the gear ratios. Fuel economy for the Sport has been EPA-estimated at 27 mpg around town and 33 mpg on the highway. The RS changes to 26 mpg in city driving, with the highway rating staying the same. The Impreza’s 20.4 cubic-foot hatch-accessed cargo area makes it extra practical. If you need to carry more goods or oversized items, you can increase that area to 56 cubic feet by folding the rear seatbacks flat.
