2026 Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid Preview

Since its introduction for the 2013 model year, the Subaru Crosstrek has been a perennial winner in the compact crossover class. Its manageable size, capable all-wheel-drive system, and affordable pricing have made it one of Subaru’s best-selling models. To keep the Crosstrek competitive, the automaker is adding a hybrid option for 2026. The last Crosstrek Hybrid was available in 2023, which was the final year of the second generation.

Subaru is gradually revealing the details of the 2026 Crosstrek Hybrid. Here’s a look at what we know so far along with what we anticipate this five-seat crossover might offer. Complete details will be available closer to when the new Crosstrek Hybrid reaches showrooms later in 2025.

Trims

The last Crosstrek Hybrid came in a single, heavily equipped trim, but we expect Subaru to expand the lineup with the forthcoming edition. For one thing, its class rivals all offer a range of trim packages. In addition, a recent Subaru news release hinted that multiple trims for the Crosstrek Hybrid are on the horizon. We anticipate seeing at least an entry-priced Base or Premium trim and a top-range Limited, but an intermediate Sport variant wouldn’t be a surprise.

Powertrain

At the heart of the 2026 Crosstrek Hybrid lies a next-generation Subaru series-parallel gas-electric powertrain. This system combines a newly developed 2.5-liter Atkinson/Miller-cycle four-cylinder Boxer engine with two electric motors and a continuously variable transmission (CVT). The electric motor generator and electric traction motor work in tandem with the gasoline engine to provide a total system output of 194 horsepower. The 2026 Crosstrek Hybrid's powertrain will be designed to integrate seamlessly with Subaru's Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system, ensuring that the vehicle retains its all-weather capability. In a departure from the plug-in hybrid (PHEV) Crosstrek sold from 2019 through 2023, the all-new 2026 Crosstrek Hybrid will have a traditional hybrid system to simplify operations and keep pricing in check.

Standard Features

As with the conventional gas-burning Crosstrek, the 2026 Hybrid variant can be expected to come well equipped with plenty of standard and available features. For starters, we anticipate LED headlights, heated front seats, automatic climate control, and proximity keyless entry in most or all trims. Higher-priced trims should offer additional amenities like a power moonroof and leather upholstery. In keeping with the Crosstrek’s off-road focus, the Hybrid version will provide an 8.7-inch ground clearance, which is more than that of many larger crossovers.

Advanced Driver Aids and Safety Technology

The 2026 Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid will certainly come standard with the latest version of the automaker's EyeSight Driver Assist Technology. This suite of advanced safety features includes adaptive cruise control, pre-collision braking, lane departure warning, and lane keep assist. The EyeSight system has been updated with a wider field of view, improved control software, and the addition of an electric brake booster for smoother and quicker operation.

The other available safety features are expected to include blind-spot detection with lane change assist, rear cross-traffic alert, and reverse automatic braking. Subaru’s new Emergency Stop Assist function will bring the vehicle to a halt, activate the hazard lights, and unlock the doors if the driver becomes unresponsive while using adaptive cruise control. Subaru Starlink Connected Services will then automatically contact emergency services.

Infotainment and Connectivity

A tablet-style 11.6-inch touchscreen will represent the infotainment command center in the 2026 Crosstrek Hybrid. This high-resolution display will feature wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay for seamless smartphone integration. The screen will also serve as a center information display, with a combination of meter integration and on-screen controls for audio, climate, and vehicle functions. The other expected infotainment features include Bluetooth, SiriusXM satellite radio, and over-the-air updates. A premium audio system and built-in navigation are likely to be available on the higher trims at least. A 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster with Apple Maps compatibility will be available as well.
