2021 Subaru Crosstrek in RI

Overview

The rugged and efficient Crosstrek, the smallest crossover in Subaru’s lineup, has been a strong seller since its 2013 debut. It has always presented a nice mix of qualities: a rugged build, road-gripping confidence in all kinds of weather, and generous standard equipment. It also has a fun yet confident look, like a lifted and trail-tough Impreza that’s waiting for the weekend so it can get a little muddy. As much as this vehicle has been loved and appreciated for those qualities – as well as an ongoing reputation for longevity – there’s a segment of Crosstrek enthusiasts wishing for a bit more horsepower. Well, those folks will be happy with that a highlight of this redesign is a stronger available engine: the 182-horsepower 2.5-liter Subaru Boxer currently in use on the Forester and Outback. Another change for this model year is the introduction of While there is a 2021 Crosstrek Hybrid (plug-in) as well, we’ll just discuss the conventional gasoline-only version on this page.

Trims Levels

Base

This entry-level trim of the ’21 Crosstrek has a 2.0-liter 152 hp four-cylinder Subaru BOXER engine and a standard six-speed manual transmission and all-wheel drivetrain; a continuously variable transmission (CVT) is available. The official EPA estimates state that the standard powertrain setup returns 22 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway; with the CVT, it gets 28 city/33 highway. Standard features in the Base include 17-inch wheels, automatic climate control, a rearview camera, a USB port, Subaru’s Starlink infotainment system with a 6.5-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth hands-free phone and audio streaming, and a four-speaker sound system. The Subaru EyeSight Driver Assist bundle is available and includes pre-collision braking and throttle management, lane departure and sway warning, and adaptive cruise control with lane centering.

Premium

The Premium has the same powertrain arrangement as the Base and is also eligible for the CVT. On top of that, it receives automatic on/off headlights, fog lights, orange contrast stitching on the upholstery, heated front seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, satellite radio, a six-speaker sound system, and an onboard Wi-Fi hotspot. The EyeSight Driver Assist suite is still available, as are blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert and keyless entry with push-button start.

Sport

The Sport moves up to a 2.5-liter four-cylinder BOXER engine (182 hp) that pairs exclusively with the CVT. Together, they achieve 27 city/34 highway. The Sport also has automatic high beams, exclusive wheel cladding, dark-gray wheels, gunmetal-finished grille and side mirrors, and two additional paint colors, Horizon Blue Pearl and Plasma Yellow. The interior gives you StarTex water-repellent seats with yellow contrast stitching, a leather-wrapped shift knob, a drive mode selector with settings for snow, dirt, deep snow, and mud, and yellow accents on the steering wheel and floor mats. The EyeSight Driver Assist suite and keyless entry and push-button ignition are standard, but blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert remains optional.

Limited

At the top of the range, the Limited reverts to the traditional Crosstrek’s appearance; however, it comes with several deluxe features, such as steering-responsive LED headlights, LED fog lights, 18-inch black alloy wheels, reverse automatic braking, leather upholstery with orange contrast stitching, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, a rear-seat folding center armrest, and an 8-inch infotainment touchscreen. This trim gets blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert as a standard feature, and navigation is available.
