The adventure-ready 2020 Subaru Crosstrek returns in 2020 with a few upgrades from the previous model year. All trims of this rugged crossover now get automatic climate control, and there's a new available automatic start-stop system that's standard on the higher trims. All in all, this is the ideal vehicle for those looking to accommodate stuff in a practical way without taking on more size than they need. The 2020 Subaru Crosstrek performs well as a daily driver or a weekend trailblazer, with something for all kinds of drivers to enjoy.

Trims and Powertrain

There are three versions available: the Base, Premium, and Limited (there's also a limited-release hybrid, but we'll just focus on the conventional gasoline-only model for this page). Under the hood of each is a 2.0-liter four-cylinder Subaru Boxer engine making 152 horsepower and 145 pounds-feet of torque; its powertrain partner is a six-speed manual transmission (not available on the Limited) or the available continuously variable transmission (CVT), which is optional on the Base and Premium. Subaru's Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive is standard on all.

Comfort and Convenience

The Base trim gets a mix of basic features and conveniences, highlighted by power exterior mirrors, automatic climate control, roof rails, and cloth seating. The Premium adds plenty more: fog lights, a windshield-wiper de-icer, heated side mirrors, heated front seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel with orange stitching, and cloth upholstery with orange stitching. The options for this trim are keyless entry, push-button ignition, paddle shifters (for CVT versions), a sunroof, a power-adjustable driver's seat, and a leather-wrapped shift knob. Those optional features, except for the sunroof, become standard on the Limited trim along with LED fog lights and steering-responsive headlights, integrated turn signals on the side mirrors, and leather upholstery.

Technology and Safety

Subaru's EyeSight Driver Assist Technology suite is optional for the Base and Premium but is standard on the loaded Limited. This state-of-the-art technology bundle includes adaptive cruise control, pre-collision braking, lane departure and sway warning, and lane keep assist. Buyers of the Premium can add blind-spot warning and rear cross-traffic alert a la carte, and the Limited gets it as standard equipment. The Limited is the only trim that's eligible for high-beam assist and reverse automatic braking. All trims get Subaru STARLINK and Security, which features the likes of automatic collision notification, SOS emergency assistance, and roadside assistance.

The base 2020 Subaru Crosstrek comes with an infotainment system with a 6.5-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a front USB port, Bluetooth hands-free capabilities, and a four-speaker audio system. The Premium adds satellite radio, a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot, two front USB ports, and a six-speaker audio system. Standard upgrades on the Limited trim include an 8-inch touchscreen, HD radio, and dual rear-seat USB ports; it's eligible for infotainment system enhancements of integrated navigation and a premium eight-speaker Harman Kardon audio system.
