2026 Subaru
Uncharted
Preview

Subaru’s lineup of electric vehicles will continue to expand nicely with the upcoming launch of the Uncharted, a compact crossover that the automaker says will be its most affordable EV. It will slot below the Solterra and arrive alongside another new all‑electric Subaru crossover, the larger Trailseeker. The five-seat Uncharted will be available in a choice of versions that will enable buyers to prioritize either range (over 300 miles) or performance (up to 338 horsepower). Subaru promises that the top Uncharted trims will reach 60 mph from a standstill in under five seconds. As we await its release, we’ve compiled this preview to summarize what we know so far about Subaru’s most affordable EV to come.

Design and Dimensions

The Uncharted’s exterior styling takes cues from Subaru’s latest design direction, which is evident in the Solterra: a broad front grille and vertical body panels. The released images show short overhangs, a high beltline, and a rakish profile for an athletic stance that fits with Subaru’s rugged vibe. While most trims will have 18-inch wheels, the GT will move up to 20-inch rims and an available contrasting roof color for an even more attention-getting appearance. From a size perspective, Car and Driver expects the Uncharted to be close to the Subaru Crosstrek.

Trims and Powertrains

The 2026 Uncharted will be presented in three trim packages: Premium, Sport, and GT. While all of them will have a 74.7-kWh lithium-ion battery, the trims will differ when it comes to their power. The front-wheel-drive Premium will have a single front-mounted electric motor estimated to produce 221 horsepower. The Sport and GT will use a dual-motor configuration for standard all-wheel drive (AWD) and a combined output of 338 horsepower. Both AWD trims promise the quickest acceleration and X-Mode dual-mode capability to help maintain stability on snow, gravel, and other low-traction surfaces.

Range and Charging

The Uncharted Premium is expected to provide more than 300 miles per full charge, while the Sport and GT will offer an estimated range of about 290 miles. All trims will come with a North American Charging Standard (NACS) port, with access to more than 15,000 stations in the Tesla Supercharger network. Subaru says the Uncharted will recharge from 10% to 80% in roughly 30 minutes at a DC fast charger, and they’re including advanced battery conditioning technology that will help maintain charging performance in cold weather. An 11‑kW onboard charger supports Level 2/240-volt charging at home or public stations.

Technology and Standard Features

The interior of the 2026 Subaru Uncharted will have a modern look, anchored by a 14-inch central touchscreen with wireless smartphone connectivity (Android Auto and Apple CarPlay). Look for two wireless charging pads to be located in the center console, with USB-C ports for the backseat passengers. The Premium’s highlighted amenities will include heated front seats, a power liftgate, heated exterior mirrors, ambient cabin lighting, and cloth upholstery. The Sport will add a heated steering wheel and water-repellent StarTex upholstery, while the GT will be loaded with a panoramic moonroof, heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear outboard seats, and a Harman Kardon audio system.

Advanced Driver Aids and Safety

The EyeSight driver-assist technology suite will be installed in every 2026 Uncharted, with the likes of pre-collision braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control, and the DriverFocus distraction-mitigation system. The two higher trims will get a panoramic view monitor as well, but only the GT will receive traffic jam assist (for low-speed, semi-automated driving) and lane change assist. Like all modern Subarus, the Uncharted will have a complement of airbags along with anti-lock brakes, stability control, traction control, and a rearview monitor.
