Trims and Performance
The 2022 Impreza is made in Base, Premium, Sport, and Limited trim levels. Their power source is a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that makes 152 hp and 145 lb.-ft. of torque. Although the Base and Sport get a five-speed manual transmission by default, they’re eligible for a continuously variable transmission (CVT), which is standard in the other trims. As mentioned above, every Impreza has an all-wheel drivetrain.
The 2022 Impreza 5-Door has pleasing fuel economy ratings, as determined by the EPA. The base trim with the manual gearbox returns an estimated 24 mpg in the city and 31 mpg on the highway, while the manual Sport achieves 22 city/30 highway. The Premium, Limited, and CVT base reach 28 city/36 highway, and the CVT Sport is rated for 27 city/35 highway.
Standout Amenities
The Base is equipped with keyless entry, cloth upholstery, auto-up/down driver and front passenger windows, a USB data port, and a 60/40-split fold-flat rear seatback. A 4.2-inch instrument cluster is optional. The roof crossbars are also set up with mounting points for accessories to carry recreational equipment or extra cargo. The Premium is ready for winter with heated front seats, heated side mirrors, and a windshield wiper de-icer. It also has silver roof rails, automatic on/off headlights, fog lights, transmission paddle shifters, an additional USB data port, and a retractable/removable cargo cover. The 4.2-inch instrument cluster remains optional, along with a moonroof, a PIN-code entry system, a power driver’s seat, and push-button start.
The Sport doesn’t include the silver roof rails or fog lights, but it does get the push-button start, PIN-code entry system, and 4.2-inch instrument cluster; those aforementioned options can be ordered on this trim as well. The standard features that give the Sport its name include larger wheels with wider tires, side rocker spoilers, active torque vectoring for sharper handling, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, sport cloth upholstery with red contrast stitching, and alloy pedals. It gets two rear USB charging ports and side-mirror turn-signal indicators as well. The Limited omits the Sport’s more athletic attributes, but it returns the fog lights and roof rails and adds LED steering-responsive headlights, leather seats (the driver’s is power-adjustable), automatic climate control, and a folding rear-seat armrest.
Safety and Technology
Subaru is a leader in advanced safety technologies, and they’re either optional or standard on the Impreza 5-Door, depending on trim level. Buyers of the Base and Sport can choose to add the EyeSight Driver Assist Technology suite, which includes pre-collision braking, pre-collision throttle management, lane departure and sway warning, and lane keeping assist. EyeSight is standard on the remaining trims. The Premium and Sport are eligible for the available blind-spot monitoring with lane change assist and rear cross-traffic alert. The Limited comes standard with all of the above, along with automatic high beams and reverse automatic braking.
Connectivity and Entertainment
The version of Subaru’s STARLINK Multimedia suite found on the Base trim consists of a 6.5-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration, Bluetooth hands-free phone and audio streaming, and a four-speaker sound system. The other three trims upgrade to STARLINK Multimedia Plus, which adds satellite and HD radio, two more speakers, and a Wi-Fi hotspot. The Premium trim retains the 6.5-inch touchscreen while the Sport and Limited move up to an 8-inch touchscreen. The two highest trims are also eligible for a premium Harman Kardon sound system with eight speakers; but only the Limited qualifies for built-in navigation.
