Overview
The 2023 Solterra is Subaru’s long-awaited fully electric crossover. This debuting EV is the first to be released by automaker and is assembled on the all-new e-Subaru Global Platform. As is the case with the rest of Subaru’s lineup of adventurous vehicles, the Solterra (which derives its name from the combination of “sun” and “earth” in Latin) will deliver on the outdoor chops that have come to define the brand, like standard all-wheel drive and high ground clearance (8.3 inches, to be precise). Not only that, but the Solterra even boasts 63.5 cubic feet of total cargo space, plenty of standard driving aids, and an interior that looks as if it came straight from the future.

Trims, Powertrain, and Performance
The all-electric Subaru Solterra is offered in three trims: Premium, Limited, and Touring. This AWD crossover has two electric motors that generate a combined 215 hp and 249 lb.-ft. of torque. As determined by the EPA, the Premium returns an estimated 94 MPGe in the city and 114 MPGe on the highway, whereas the Limited and Touring both achieve 93 MPGe/111 MPGe. This translates to 228 miles of single-charge driving with the Premium and 222 miles with the Limited and Touring.
The Solterra comes with a 6.6-kW onboard L2 charger, and when the battery is dead, it takes approximately 11 hours to fully recharge it using a 240-volt outlet. Also, thanks to the vehicle’s regenerative braking capability (which can be adjusted using the paddle shifters mounted on the steering wheel), the Solterra can gain an increment of charge on the road since it’s able to capture the kinetic energy formed during braking and store it in the battery.
Premium
On its exterior, the Solterra Premium is appointed with LED headlights, a windshield wiper de-icer, heated side mirrors, remote keyless entry, and stylish 18-inch wheels. Its cabin offers both convenience and comfort with push-button start, heated front seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, dual-zone automatic climate control, rear AC vents, a 60/40-split rear seatback with a folding center armrest and cupholders, and a cargo-area underfloor storage tray.
This trim gets some sought-after tech items as well, including a configurable 7-inch LCD gauge cluster, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and multiple USB ports (one Type-A and four Type-C). The components of the Premium’s well-rounded infotainment system are an 8-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, built-in navigation, a Wi-Fi hotspot, Bluetooth hands-free phone and audio streaming, SiriusXM satellite radio, and an audio system with six speakers. The standard safety suite bundles adaptive radar cruise control, a pre-collision system with automatic emergency braking, lane departure alert and prevention, lane tracing assist, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, and automatic high beams.
Limited
Subaru stocks the mid-range Limited with a host of prominent upgrades, such as LED fog lights, power-folding side mirrors, roof rails, a power liftgate, Digital Key, heating elements for the steering wheel and second-row outboard seats, a HomeLink universal garage door opener, and a wireless phone charger. The driver’s seat is now power-adjustable, and synthetic-leather replaces the cloth upholstery. Meanwhile, the multimedia touchscreen grows to 12.3 inches and adds an 11-speaker Harman Kardon sound system; the safety suite is improved with a panoramic view monitor and an automatic parking system.
Touring
At the top of the line, the Touring wows its occupants with high-end refinements like a panoramic glass roof, ventilated front seats, and a cutting-edge digital rearview mirror. There’s also a retractable cargo area cover, which allows you to keep your valuables safe and out of sight when the Solterra is parked.
