2024 Subaru Crosstrek Wilderness in RI

Overview
Following the success of the all-new third-generation Crosstrek for the 2024 model year, Subaru has launched the ready-for-action Wilderness edition of this popular model. This new variant joins the Wilderness versions of the Outback and Forester and sits at the top of the Crosstrek range.
While the Crosstrek Wilderness gets unique exterior treatments, there’s more to this compact crossover than rugged good looks. The Wilderness badge means extra capability, on and off the road. This ruggedness begins with an X-Mode all-wheel-drive system with settings for snow, dirt, and mud. It also has more ground clearance – 9.3 inches – than the other Crosstrek trims, plus a front skid plate. At the same time, all-terrain tires enhance traction on the trails, and it gets Wilderness-specific front and rear bumpers that improve the approach and departure angles to help with steep climbs and avoiding large obstructions.
This overview covers the 2024 Subaru Crosstrek Wilderness. For details on the other trims, see our separate page on the 2024 Crosstrek.

Powertrain
The Crosstrek Wilderness gets a 2.5-liter four-cylinder Boxer engine that makes 182 horsepower. The powerplant is connected to a standard all-wheel-drive system via a retuned continuously variable transmission (CVT). The gearbox features an eight-speed manual mode operated through steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters. The setup has been enhanced for better off-road performance; the reworked final drive ratio (the gearing between the transmission and the drive axles) enhances low-speed traction on slippery surfaces. Subaru also includes an Incline Start Assist feature.
Thanks to a transmission oil cooler, the Crosstrek Wilderness can tow up to 3,500 pounds, which far exceeds the 1,500-pound capacity of other Crosstrek trims. The EPA has estimated that it achieves 25 miles per gallon in around-town driving and 29 mpg on the open road.
Standard Features and Options
As the top-of-the-line Crosstrek, the Wilderness is well-equipped for comfort and convenience, getting heated front seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, StarTex water-repellent upholstery, proximity keyless entry, push-button start, LED steering-responsive headlights (that turn in sync with the front wheels) with automatic on/off, hexagonal-style LED fog lights, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shifter knob. It also has 60/40-split folding rear seats, power side mirrors, black-finished roof rails, a windshield wiper de-icer, heated power side mirrors with integrated turn-signals, a manually adjustable tilt-and-telescopic steering column, a cargo area cover, and 17-inch aluminum-alloy wheels with a matte-black finish. The options offered for the Crosstrek Wilderness include a power moonroof and a ten-way power driver's seat.
Advanced Driver Aids and Safety Equipment
Subaru’s EyeSight driver assist system is an integral standard feature of the 2024 Crosstrek Wilderness. The technology grouping includes forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking and steering, lane departure and sway warning, lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control with lane centering, and automatic high beams. Subaru also adds blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, automatic emergency steering, and reverse automatic braking to the Crosstrek Wilderness. Multiple airbags, anti-lock brakes, vehicle stability control, traction control, and a rearview monitor add to the list of standard safety equipment.
Infotainment and Connectivity
You’ll use an 11.6-inch touchscreen display to manage the infotainment features in the Crosstrek Wilderness. The components include a six-speaker audio system, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, SiriusXM satellite radio, Bluetooth, and access to Wi-Fi hotspot and Subaru connected services (for emergency help, remote access, and other features). A ten-speaker Harman Kardon sound system is optional. The Crosstrek Wilderness also has illuminated USB-A and USB-C ports in both rows.
