2026 Subaru
Crosstrek Hybrid

Since its introduction for the 2013 model year, the Subaru Crosstrek has been a perennial winner in the compact crossover class. Its manageable size, capable all-wheel drivetrain, and affordable pricing have made it one of Subaru’s best-sellers. To keep the Crosstrek competitive, the automaker is reintroducing an all-new hybrid option for 2026. This more fuel-efficient alternative was last available in 2023, the final year of the nameplate’s second generation.

The Crosstrek Hybrid’s revised BOXER engine works in tandem with two electric motors to generate 194 horsepower – more than any other Crosstrek. The hybrid powertrain also provides up to 38 percent better fuel economy than its gas-only counterpart, while also supplying an EPA-estimated range of 597 miles on a full tank. Keeping with Subaru’s adventurous reputation, the proprietary Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive means the Crosstrek Hybrid’s range and power aren’t confined to city streets. The Crosstrek Hybrid Sport trim is also the only Crosstrek – traditional or hybrid – that comes standard with a power moonroof. The entire lineup brings fresh style with exclusive colors, including Sand Dune Pearl and Citron Yellow Pearl.

Trims and Powertrain

The Crosstrek Hybrid is offered in two trims: Sport and Limited. The 2.5-liter 4-cylinder BOXER engine (making 162 horsepower and 154 lb.-ft. of torque on its own) is joined by dual electric motors for a total output of 194 horsepower. A Lineartronic continuously variable transmission (CVT) completes the powertrain, complete with a 6-speed manual mode via paddle shifters. Subaru’s Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive (AWD) is standard, and both trims return an estimated 36 mpg city/highway.

The lineup also comes with Dual-Function X-MODE, Subaru Intelligent Drive, hill descent control, adaptive control, incline start assist, vehicle dynamics control, traction control, active torque vectoring, and auto vehicle hold. Both trims have 8.7 inches of ground clearance and ride on a four-wheel independent raised suspension: struts with lower L-arms in the front and double-wishbone with lateral link pillow-ball joint bushings in the rear, both with stabilizer bars.

Subaru rugged capability

Standard Features

The Crosstrek Hybrid has the expected rugged Subaru look with lower body cladding, raised roof rails, and LED fog lights. The other exterior highlights are LED steering-responsive headlights with automatic-on/off, LED daytime running lights, heated power side-view mirrors with integrated turn indicators, and 18-inch dark gray-finished aluminum alloy wheels for the Sport and 18-inch machine-finished aluminum alloy wheels for the Limited.

As far as the interior amenities, both trims get heated front seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, a 10-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, a configurable 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster with EyeSight and Apple Maps integration, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shifter, keyless entry, push-button start, illuminated front and rear USB ports, an illuminated glove box, cargo-area accessories (bag hooks, area tie-downs, a tray, and a removable cargo cover), and a 60/40-split rear seatback with a folding armrest and cupholders. There’s a slight difference in the upholstery, with the Sport getting a mix of StarTex and cloth with contrast stitching and the Limited getting all StarTex. The higher trim also gets a heated steering wheel and remote start and is eligible for the power-tilting/sliding moonroof that the Sport gets standard.
