Design and Styling
The 2026 Solterra will showcase refreshed exterior styling centered around new signature EV lighting featuring an illuminated six-star Subaru logo badge. The front end will receive redesigned headlamps and a new bumper design, while the rear will feature a new spoiler and other treatments. Subaru will also introduce fresh 18-inch and 20-inch wheel designs. Depending on the trim and exterior finish, buyers can opt for body-color front fenders or a two-tone design. Inside, the Solterra’s cabin will remain bright and open, set off by a wide center console and metallic accents.
Powertrain and Performance
A 74.7-kWh lithium-ion battery will be at the heart of the 2026 Solterra, enabling this five-seat crossover to travel up to 285 miles on a single charge – a 25% improvement over the 2025 model. The dual-motor all-wheel-drive powertrain is also getting a horsepower increase to 233, an 18-horsepower bump over last year. A new trim, the XT, will join the lineup with more powerful dual electric motors that push total output to 338 horsepower. With a zero-to-60 mph time of less than five seconds, the Solterra XT promises to be one of the quickest Subarus on the street.
The 2026 Solterra upgrades include revised all-wheel-drive engineering with new controllers that deliver improved performance on on-road and off-pavement surfaces, especially in wet conditions. The system will also predict tire loads and optimize power distribution and suspension settings to reduce body roll and enhance ride quality. Newly refined power steering will add precision to the handling.
Charging and Technology
The Solterra will have a standard North American Charging Standard (NACS) port, providing access to more than 15,000 Tesla Superchargers across North America. Level 3/DC fast charging from 10% to 80% will take less than 35 minutes at peak speeds (up to 150 kW). At-home charging, via Level 1 (120-volt) or Level 2 (240-volt), will remain part of the Solterra’s capability.
The model’s technology upgrades will include a new 14-inch Subaru Multimedia touchscreen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility. Each front seat will get its own wireless device charging pad, while second-row passengers will have easy access to their own USB-C charge ports.
Capability and Safety
While the 2026 Solterra will bring with it many improvements, Subaru isn’t changing what already works for this EV. Notably, the best-in-class ground clearance of 8.3 inches and the company’s proven Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive will keep the Solterra ready for when the road ahead in unpaved. Off-pavement prowess will continue with the standard X-Mode Dual-Mode System, featuring Snow/Dirt and Deep Snow/Mid modes with grip control and downhill assist control.
Crowning the Solterra’s safety capability will be Subaru’s highly regarded EyeSight suite of driver-assist technologies. This grouping includes pre-collision braking, blind-spot monitoring, front and rear cross-traffic alert, lane change assist, lane departure alert, and adaptive cruise control with traffic jam assist. As an unexpected bonus, all 2026 Solterras will come with a surround-view monitor.
